In the light of the brutal slayings of two Policewomen only 3 days ago, is this the kind of conduct conducive by a senior MP to engendering Police morale? Is his own apology enough? What if that had been you or I?
And IF he used foul language, shouldn't he stand down immediately?
Cameron, though, has more or less exonerated his man - a wise move?

But I think 'jobsworth' relates to particular behaviour. Has anyone suggested the two officers killed were killed while they were behaving in a 'jobsworth' manner? I don't believe so.

I can only tell you how I and the rest of my colleagues in a provincial English city felt whilst on duty the night that PC Keith Blakelock was brutally hacked to death in London. Believe it or not - Police Officers are 'only' human as well and experience the same emotions as anyone else, no matter which part of the country they're in.
We had to carry on that same night doing our duty 'normally' as if nothing had happened. Also, I was on duty in our control room on another occasion on a night when two colleagues, known personally to me and on the same shift, were killed in a car smash. We nevertheless had to see out the rest of our shift.

I'm not sure it's appropriate to suggest that harsh language from the Chief Whip is comparable with the hacking to death of a police officer.

That was my job.
The police are not alone in suffering.

I sincerely hope I have not been swept into the category of 'posters who clearly hold the Police in contempt'.
I would like to think that I have maintained a position of neutrality because I do not know all of the facts and do not wish to draw hasty conclusions.
I too have been close to the front line and am more than aware of what it is like to lose friends and colleagues, however, unless I know the facts I hold back with my condemnation.

The Chief Whip regularly cycles though the main entrance to Downing Street and then one day he is not allowed. As the street is gated then it is not a public highway so I am not sure the rules of the highway code apply. As Cameron also cycles, there must be some rule in place somewhere. What has never been made clear in this case is who was in the wrong.
If the Chief Whip was right then it is understandable he was cross. The rebuke sounds fairly mild and I am sure the police officer has been called much worse.
If the police officer was right then he doesn't deserve grief off the Chief Whip.
