I never thought a 'far left' MP such as George Galloway would come out in support of such a person as Julian Assange.

He has as much chance of getting a fair trial as ... I dunno, a woman with a carrot on her nose?
The corrupt US Govt want revenge on him for exposing some of their lies, corruption, and deviousness.

//All they are for is to put Julian Assange within the reach of the rather miffed USA//
Absolutely. He is being SO set up for the US to grab him and hit him with spurious "national security" charges.
The only people who can't see how badly he is being set up are people who believe that people in power are totally honest, and that MPs would never, ever abuse their expenses claims.

Quite possibly true, Jayne. But I think they may also want to speak to him for exposing some of their people who are trying to protect US, British and other lives in places like Afghanistan. Assange is an attention-seeking buffoon and his preposterous Wikileaks organisation has no concern for the consequences of its actions.
However, all that is by the way. The predicament in which the odious Assange currently finds himself is straightforward. He is wanted by the Swedish authorities to answer serious allegations (the details of which, incidentally, are yet to be established and are certainly not known by the even more odious and increasingly ridiculous George Galloway). A European Arrest Warrant has been properly issued and Assange has exhausted all avenues of appeal in the UK in his efforts to avoid extradition.
The UK should take no advice on its interpretation of Human Rights from that paragon of virtue on such matters which is Ecuador. It has an obligation to extradite Assange to Sweden to answer the charges. The people who stood bail should forfeit their cash and the embassy of the country which has granted him asylum should simply be monitored to prevent his escape. If the Ecuadorians are happy to allow him to stay and he wants to remain there then so be it - they seem made for each other. The UK should also consider whether it actually wants to play host to an Embassy of a nation which treats the issue of asylum with such contempt.

NJ ... I just can't believe that the US Govt has such noble motives. If they did, they would probably have said so, to attract more sympathy.
I suspect the sort of thing that they REALLY didn't like having exposed was ... say, the communique from Hilary Clinton asking her aides to steal the passwords of friendly diplomats so that the US could hack into the secret files of their own allies.
That, in their eyes, is definitely worth trumping up some spurious charge to get him extradited, and close to their grasp.

Assange's case for avoiding extradition to Sweden has been heard at three levels of the English judiciary...Special Magistrate's Court, High Court (Appeal) and Supreme Court. At each level, the finding was that what he is alleged to have done with these women WOULD be susceptible to a rape charge in this country. Galloway and others, even right here on AB, are quite simply legally wrong when they say otherwise.
Consequently, whether or not anyone else has ever been so charged is a total irrelevance. You can't get out of a prosecution for speeding by whining to the police that other drivers were going even faster!
Clearly Assange and Galloway deserve each other, but - equally clearly - the proper place for Assange's guilt or innocence to be tested is in a Swedish court of law if, indeed, the prosecutors decide it needs to be tried. Let's not forget that no such decision has been made. Should they decide not, then they can just send him merrily on his way. If, meantime the USA has presented a valid legal case for his further extradition, then I trust it would be granted by Sweden just as we have done with their request to us.
