Gary Kasparov has just been arrested outside the court where the "Pussy Riot" women were just found guilty.

Video of him being dragged off in the middle of a TV interview- demanding to know why he was being arrested

Anybody else think the Russians are doing their international image no good at all or is this a no-nonsense police force that knows how to keep law and order ?

The Russians don't care about their international image.
Russia does seem to be slipping back into it's pre Berlin wall days doesn't it.
Putin is basically a dictator and he doesn't give a toss what the outside world thinks
the russian people have been ruled with an iron fist for centuries...nothing has changed...and it never will...maybe we should be grateful we live in the u.k even though we are being hammered with taxes, being run by an unelected coalition govt, facing more petrol increases, being overrun with immigrants, having corrupt mps sitting in parliament and the x factor is on our screens again...maybe living in russia might not be a bad option...
how is our goverment unelected?
I think Mrs M means we didn't vote for a Con-Lib coalition
Go to the Itar -Tass website and find out what pussy riot actually did .
http://www.itar-tass.com/en/c32/498695.html
(...as oppose to going to the BBC website and finding out only what the BBC wants you to think pussy riot did....)
I would love to see Gary Weinstein (...his real name isn't Kasparov..) go to the largest synagogue in New York (...that's where he lives...) and disrupt the service , climb on to the altar and use the "f" word to describe President Obama multiple times , use the "f" word to describe the chief Rabbi of the US multiple times , and then wait and see what happens .
Pussy Riot got what they deserved . People have a right to go to their church services and worship in peace without their dignity being violated .
Oh , and by the way , aren't we the nation that gave a 4yr sentence to a teenager for a joke tweet about starting a riot (but never actually participating in one) ?
Kiki- Frog Putin won his election on a ballot paper which had five candidates . The Americans only have two to choose from .

Did you get an option to vote for a coalition StarBeast?
by the fact that it is a coalition...
Question Author
Yes argorstran

I can't imagine the New York Police arresting and bodilly carying away anybody speaking to the press in their defense though

Can you?
/// Putin won his election on a ballot paper which had five candidates ///

True, but it was widely believed that there was vote-rigging involved. Putin is a dictator in all but name

Do you think their sentences are fitting to the crime?
That's exactly what they did to the Occupy Wall St. protesters Jake . Wake Up .
We vote for local MP's, the ones that get the most votes win a seat, the party with the most seats form a government, sometimes, thankfully we don't have PR, one party has less than 50% of the seats so they have to negotiate with other parties and hopefully form a government, that's how it works, sounds like the closest description of "election" there is to me. It's known as democracy. Perhaps Mrs maveric would describe her version.
Yes - otherwise everyone will try the same thing .
"Did you get an option to vote for a coalition StarBeast?"

I cannot begin to comprehend the level of niavity required to even consider asking that!

We vot for MP's. Are you suggesting that the ballot papers include every comibination of coalition/alliance on the paper in every constituency?

If a coalition is termed "unelected" by some sort of strange rhetoric, would someone explain what should have happenned in the case of a hung parliament?
Baring in mind of course that every parliament is hung under PR so are all those governments all over the world also "unelected"?
Question Author
Er No it wasn't

Maybe you need to wake up

Then maybe you'd see the difference between Police being charged with breaking up a long standing protest and immediately arresting someone speaking out of line

Or maybe you wouldn't
Maybe I wouldn't see the difference Jake . Police worldwide are charged with protecting the courts .

No StarBeast

I'm questioning the constitutional legality of a number of parties being voted for on the basis of published manifestos and then deciding that they then had the authority to tear up those manifestos and create a Frankenstein one and that their combined votes gave them a mandate for that

I'm pretty sure most of the people who voted Lib Dem didn't intend to give a mandate for the trebling of tuition fees

Perhaps you should think a bit more before setting up straw man arguments and throwing charges of niaivity about on that basis
So what should have happenned?
