/// He is now under investigation by immigration officials and may face deportation. ///

I wonder if he really will be deported, and I wonder if those below were deported, I bet they weren't.

/// In recent years there have been a string of cases of asylum seekers lying about their age to gain access to social housing and education in Britain. ///

/// In 2010, two Guinean asylum seekers were ejected from a secondary school after teachers discovered they were in their 20s.///

/// One, who was studying in year 11 and has now be revealed to be 23, had allegedly struck up a relationship with a 14-year-old girl at the school. ///

/// In August 2010, Rabad Hamad, who claimed to be 16 and was studying for GCSEs at a school in Oldham, Greater Manchester, was detained after officials discovered he was really 20. ///

No, wont be deported and if we try some pon-life lawyer will use State Money to fight it on the grounds of their 'ooman Rights.

Meanwhile all the hand wringers will delight in it.
Is there no low these foreigners won't sink to in order to find safe sanctuary?
I understand it goes both ways.

In some ethnic groups children (particularly boys) often look older than they really are and there have been many cases where under 16s were harassed or excluded because of erroneous suspicions they were older.

It is complicated when in many cultures they are less focused or aware of birth dates than we are

How very convenient for them.
These Muslims ...
//How very convenient for them//

Not really, no, it's often a barrier to accessing services which rely on DOB to distinguish between patients or clients. Not everyone is abusing the system, and all have rights, like it or not.
<<How very convenient for them.>>

Indeed it might be in some cases,

the fact remains that in some parts of this world (I think Afghanistan may be one of them) if you ask locals when they were born many will not be able to quote a year in the way we can.

In others not so convenient as in the (not uncommon) case when a boy asylum seeker travelling alone claims child status, he looks to Immigration Control to be at least 16 and when they ask him when he was born he truthfully answers 'I don't know'

The case i know of (one of many i believe) it was only after months in an adult detention centre when another asylum seeker, an uncle i think, was able to provide corroborative evidence that he was only 14.
Disgusting perhaps we should put them up against a wall and shoot them!!
If he were a genuine asylum seeker, why lie? He should be sent back.

Andy, I don't understand the sarcasm. He is Muslim.
Exactly! They are everywhere - epsecially in the News Section ...
Perhaps that's because they are often in the news.
So is Simon Cowell, but he features fare less frequently!

Yes, and the Middle East is full of them.

Always aiming for a level playing field.

Really? I thought they had all moved over here!
Simon Cowell doesn't create quite so much controversy. So what are you saying Andy? That you don't want people here to talk about news items that involve Muslims?
This isn't news to me.

I used to work in a hostel and we had loads of 'young' asylum seekers.

Anyone with common sense could see they were in their early 20s but because the powers that be couldn't prove it (and it appeared they didn't really try) they were treated as minors.

I am sure there must be a simple blood test that will do the job but 'they' are so worried about human rights they shy away from trying to do their job.
cassa there is no blood test that can prove age. There are tests of bone for age but they are not accurate enough to date to within a year or so and they need a bone sample.
This man claims to be 17 years old.
