Is this to be believed or is there more to these sackings?

In their defence the collage stated;

/// Professor Nye was dismissed from his post as Principal at the College following a period of suspension on full pay and an inquiry conducted by the College Chancellor.///

Although they failed to elaborate.

And regarding Mrs Nye's sacking;

/// Despite a waiting list for places on its English language courses, the college closed the department last month, leaving its two remaining tutors redundant at Christmas. ///

Professor Malory Nye and his wife are to take this case to an employment tribunal claiming racial and religious discrimination, and unfair dismissal, so we should know more then.

aog, my apologies, up to a point: they spoke to the Telegraph; but it doesn't actually alter my real point, which is that they were trying to get themselves heard in the media rather than before the appropriate tribunal.
The Daily Mail will Will run with the story if the tribunal comes out in favour of the college, but the tone of the report will be exactly like the tone of the report on the Christian B&B owners who were sued for not letting a gay couple share a double room, and the way they reported the sacking of the Beefeater who was accused of bullying the country's first female Beefeater.

The tone of the report will be completely supportive of the plaintives.

They will be photographed looking sad, with the wife's head on her husband's shoulder...and no doubt there will be a library picture of three Muslim women walking down the street, one of whom will be carrying a Tesco shopping bag.

Who would like to bet me on this? £10 to the charity of your choosing if I'm wrong!
No...scratch the Tescos carrier bag thing - that's way too specific.
Imagine if the plaintives in this case were a Muslim couple, suing a CofE school, stating they'd been sacked for being "too Muslim".

I wonder how many respondents on the Mail's thread would accuse them of 'playing the race card'.

Stunning hypocrisy.
you needn't think I'm taking that bet on, sp1814, I'm not as dumb as I look.

I like the "playing the race card" line - very true.
/// Despite a waiting list for places on its English language courses, the college closed the department last month, leaving its two remaining tutors redundant at Christmas. ///

This probably says it all! The college no longer wishes to teach English even though there is a demand for it.

Then we need to speculate as to why? It would seem the backers need to focus on another department that involves Muslim teachers.

Are you going on the say so of the sacked tutors?

Do you think, perhaps, that they might be a wee bit biased in the way the story has been spun?
Rov1100,

The courses were not teaching English, they were teaching in English. As apposed to in Arabic.
From their website

// All the courses at the College are taught in English. Students whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of their English language ability when applying to study at the College. //

/// 'playing the race card'. ///

That is precisely what it is 'THE RACE CARD' one card out of a pack of 52, some are very really allowed the opportunity to use this one card, whereas others have the other 51, which they systematically use on a regular basis.
Why should white Christians who play the race card be treated differently from Pakistani Muslims who do the same.

All I want to see here is a level playing field.
Just realised something:

"That is precisely what it is 'THE RACE CARD' one card out of a pack of 52, some are very really (sic) allowed the opportunity to use this one card, whereas others have the other 51, which they systematically use on a regular basis."

If the race card is one out of 52, then the other 51 CANNOT be played, as they are not race cards.

The analogy is flawed.
"Is this to be believed or is there more to these sackings? "

No, it is not to be believed. Plainly there is more to this, regardless of who's right and who's wrong. Why would the college sack these particular British, white Christians and not any of the others? The fact that they actually claimed this might be the reason suggests there might be more to these people than meets the eye.

That is absolutely incredible coming from the likes of you.

Furthermore - the couple had been employed by the college for 8 and 4 years respectively. It's as if they're saying that in all that time, no-one noticed that they were white and/or Christian!

I imagine that at some point earlier this year, they gave the game away when they admitted to using sunblock on holiday and then perhaps someone spotted them on in the congregation in an edition of 'Songs Of Praise'.

Get with it SP, One Race card out of a pack of 52 Race cards.

Perhaps the same way as blacks who have been employed for many years in high position jobs, such as top police officers, maintain they have been victimised and not allowed further promotion because they are black.

Let's recap.

This college wants students who can speak and understand English. It does not want to teach Arabic students English. They can fill their courses without having to teach English to foreigners. So they decided to stop teaching English. The English teacher did not have her contract renewed. She happened to be the wife of the principal. The principal would not have been happy and a feud with the trustees begins. He changes the College name and wants to take it to a new direction. The trustees were happy with the original direction, and he was suspended.

So the whole story is about the college only wanting to teach English speakers, and for some unknown reason, AOG objects to that.
Therace card analogy isn't working. What on earth does a pack of 52 race cards look like anyway, and why can't white Christians play any one of them?

There is no such phrase as "He's playing *one* of the race cards"

And back to my previous question. Are they or are they not playing THE race card?

And if so, would the reaction from the right be the same if the case was about a Muslim professor.

And lastly - why the squirming? Why can't those who adhere to right wing philosophies admit that once in a while, they're a bit hypocritical?

I'm happy to admit when I have double-standards...I'm quite proud of my human failings!!!
