Eric Pickles is a man of astounding girth, but very little stature, physical or otherwise. The best U-turn would be for this governent to U-turn straight back into opposition.
yikes, not just yet, ichkeria, Labour have no idea where they're going or what they're doing at the moment.
the benefits cap is on housing benefit is £ 500 pounds a week! thats 2000pcm in rent, I think thats pretty generous still in terms of rent!
It is a lot of money. But it wouldn't get much in London.
dont live in london then.. :)

just looking on rightmove, you can get loads of properties to rent at under 2000pcm, go and have a look, nice properties as well

like this one in bath http://www.rightmove....roperty-30168008.html
Can anyone really quote what the figure should be to be fair to everyone after all the people who state the figures ( government ministers) haven't a clue what it must be like to try & survive without a job & trying to cope with rents & mortgages & feed a family. We've all heard about people living off the state & I know for a fact that they are not all malingerers. It's all very well for folks to be told to go & get a job,but where are all these jobs to be found ? Ron.

I'm not sure that people on HB would have the £3000 deposit required for that property in Bath....

its a normal sized deposit sadly, most if not all rental properties require a similar size deposit
"Labour have no idea where they're going or what they're doing at the moment. "

Unlike the current "government" of course :-)
As far a deposits are concerned, there is a bond scheme available that, without going into the nitty gritty, means that the tenant does not have to find such a large deposit. That's if the Landlord agrees to take it on.
U-turn? Cameron has had to make so many u-turns that all he needs now is a tall Sufi hat and a voluminous skirt to qualify as a fully-trained Whirling Dervish!
One wouldn't mind so much but, when in opposition, any such activity on the then Government's part was invariably described as a "humiliating climbdown", but now he actually claims each one represents leadership and strength!
it would get you quite a lot in London actually, 500 quid a week, 2,000 quid a month absurd. Its private landlords who have been allowed to charge what they like, part of the problem, and who set the tariff at such a high level, as said on another thread, there are thousands of empty properties here, but council would rather leave them empty, than get tenants in, give them a grant to do up the place, then charge them a fair rent. Our council is selling off good council housing stock, bought up by property developers, done up for peanuts, then flogged off for millions.
