Yet again we have another country burning to the ground.,And yet still we have people complaining they are not able to get on a polluting plane to go on their so called well earned holiday abroad. Incredible greed and selfishness.

Yes indeed. First world problems. Incidentally I wld love to get on a plane but mine wld be to see family on another continent. It’s been 2.5 years and I was supposed to fly there last March when lockdown hit. My parents are elderly and my mum has been dx with cancer. But South Africa is still on the “red” list. So in my case I believe hopping in a plane is a good reason -...

Andres - because we work hard and the weather in the UK is too unpredictable. It's not just about lying next to a pool, it's getting out and about and experiencing different things.
T C ,that’s not the case at all, I don’t feel any prestige for having a holiday ,no more than you do going to the Lakes and Scotland and telling us all about it?
If you weren’t so rude and stayed with having a general change of opinions you may find it would be for the better
//the personal attacks can be controlled/ reported?//
You mean like the one at 13.17?
I know of no one who has bragged about their holidays. In responding to a question on here I mentioned a mode to transport I had used but this was not bragging. People have the right to say where they are going, this does not mean they are bragging. The same could have been said about your reporting of you trips
I agree with you tc 100% and I think anne was actually defending you.

I'm in Llanadudno at the moment and it's teeming down, has been for most of the day, but we're busying ourselves cooking a Sunday dinner and it's supposed to clear up tomorrow and we're here all week.

Well I hope they put the fires out. I've got two holidays booked to Greece next year!

Thank you Mam! As I said I think the main problem we have had is the fact that unless the problem is in our own back yard we tend to keep brushing it to one side, its not unlike the covid when Boris kept brushing it under the carpet, its here its real, and its happening, and until it hits us smack in the face we seem to want to ignore it, and before anyone is hot off the starting line I include myself for ignoring it over the past 10 years, but no more. People are dying with covid, but I fear many more will die a lot quicker with this situation getting out of controll.
Thank you Shirley,,,,,,,,, I rarely post on tc’s threads, I just see a pattern from some abers . Hey ho .

burley I know ann was. aimed at others.
Well bobbi @13.50---just add about another 10 years on to your ages and then you will get to ours. I still say it is stupid and senseless to think of holidaying at the present time. Yes I know that some of these countries have wildfires every year but these are way beyond belief. They are now raging out of control in Greece.
tc..@13:29 you imply that you have done with plane travel....does that mean, because you're too old, everyone else should stop....a bit hypo me thinks.
My sister owns a caravan in Wells-Next-The-Sea and charges £500 per week for it.

I could get a 2 week holiday abroad, all inclusive, for a few hundred quid more. I stayed in a lovely hotel in Portugal. £600 each for 2 weeks AI.
The decision has to be a personal one Andres and I’ve made that personal decision

ummmm. I well understand the costs between the two, however the real cost now is the planet, and thats going to cost everyone that lives on the planet with their lives. Now thats very very expensive.

( THEIR LIVES) ^^
What about us. We're Irish. Are we not suppose to go see the family and parents? Or is that acceptable as it's not a holiday as such.
Question Author
ummmm ,A plane trip to see family is a whole different ball game and I'm sure you know that, especially whats been happening over the last 18 months. We've been asked many times to do our part regarding plane travel, the same has doing our part with covid. A good example is my camper van, it is going to give my two daughters and their kids a holiday without plane travel, so with me included thats three families that won't be going abroad, not only that but supporting the home economy. My one daughter has also decided to go to Scotland like I did, first time for them and more importantly for their kids, kids love camping no matter what the weather, plus they will learn about the UK has a whole, before swanning off to the other side of the world before they know about this side.
We are in cyprus now, until end of September, Cyprus has its fires too, some of them started deliberately, like the fires in Turkey that have been started by some political organisation. There is a big one in California, now that is sad, some of these fires just happen, I don't believe it is all down to climate change.
Dont you think the kids have been through enough over the last 18 months without subjecting them to a fortnight of rain and midges :-)
What is best. 5 hour car journey diesel or 40 plane ride
