does anyone remember the name of the LP that had this song on - sung by jon pertwee i think. There was also my grandfathers clock, as well as many other children's songs.

Or is there a musical equivalent of bookprice24, that may be able to find out for me?

It was called Childrens Favourites, by EMI and Paul Hamlin and published by Music for Pleasure ltd

Can't remember Children's Favourites, although I was around at the time. Perhaps we didn't put the wireless on on a Saturday morning. What I do remember, though, is its successor, Junior Choice, hosted by Ed Stewart, Radio 2 Sat 8.00 - 10.00. It was the most popular radio programme when I was in the RAF. Just imagine us 19/20 somethings enthusiastically singing along to Nellie the Elephant and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Of course, we occasionally supplied our own lyrics.
Bobbi, ... I'm a troll, fol de-roll..... and I'll eat you for supper ♫
thats the one boxy, bit like on here when we are invaded..ha-ha
Just remembered the title of the song I was asking about and googled it with some success:

And just in case anyone else is as old and sad as I am, here's another:

Big Rock Candy Mountain......Burl Ives
Does anyone remember a song about a bubble car ? no-one believes me.
I believe you Moon. There's a faint tapping at one of my brain cells (well OK, the only one!)

Anyone remember Right said Fred, give a shout to Charlie, up came Charlie from the floor below etc etc (Bernard Cribbens I believe)
found this site, hope the link works http://www.whirligig-....uk/radio/lyrics1.htm
thats the one, but there must be an english version about a bubble car. cheers.
I reckon the one you're after is Junior Choice vol. 1.
The singer on that was Vernon Dalhart, not Jon Pertwee.

1. Nellie The Elephant - Miller, Mandy
2. Runaway Train - Dalhart, Vernon
3. Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen By The Sea - Bygraves, Max
4. You're A Pink Toothbrush - Bygraves, Max
5. Robin Hood - James, Dick
6. I Taut I Taw A Puddy Tat - Blanc, Mel
7. Woody Woodpecker - Blanc, Mel
8. Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) - Hill, Benny
9. I've Lost My Mummy - Harris, Rolf

The Radio Revellers singing Grandfather's Clock was on Junior Choice vol 2, so perhaps the one you remember was the Complet Junior Choice, with all 3 LPs on?
I think the one you're after could be Junior Choice vol. 1., but the singer on that was Vernon Dalhart, not Jon Pertwee.
Here's the tracklist:

1. Nellie The Elephant - Mandy Miller
2. Runaway Train - Vernon Dalhart
3. Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen By The Sea - Max Bygraves
4. You're A Pink Toothbrush - Max Bygraves
5. Robin Hood - Dick James
6. I Taut I Taw A Puddy Tat - Mel Blanc
7. Woody Woodpecker - Mel Blanc
8. Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) - Benny Hill
9. I've Lost My Mummy - Rolf Harris
10. Jake The Peg - Rolf Harris
11. My Boomerang Won't Come Back - Charlie Drake
12. Mr Custer - Charlie Drake
13. Little Boy Fishin' - Shirley Abicair
14. Laughing Policeman - Gharles Penrose
15. Ragtime Cowboy Joe - The Chipmunks
16. Buckingham Palace - Anne Stephens
17. Hippopotamus Song - Flanders & Swann
18. Ballad Of Davy Crockett - 'Tennessee' Ernie Ford
19. Grandad - Clive Dunn

The Radio Revellers singing Grandfather's Clock was on Junior Choice vol 2, so perhaps the one you remember was the complete Junior Choice, with all 3 LPs on (can't remember the full title, sorry).
Crisgal - re your lunatic asylum song. One of the lines goes, "What, thirty bob a week and a wife and kids to keep? Come inside you silly bugger, come inside". I think it was called Come Inside(?)
