I've been thinking a bit lately how over the past year or so my tastes have altered for what films and TV I watch.

I've never been that bothered about stuff with violence and war but in the past year I've noticed that anything violent just holds no interest for me whatsoever. In fact, watching people die or being killed is quite off-putting now. I choose not to watch them whenever possible.

Plus besides enjoying documentaries for learning I've also found that I have a need for comedy on TV, I need to be entertained and to enjoy light-hearted programmes that make me laugh and be happy. I can't stand anything too serious or depressing anymore.

yup, I watched movies all through the 1970s and they all ended unhappily (probably a reaction to the Vietnam War or something - Easy Rider is a good example). I got kinda tired of it all. These days I seek out ones that are a bit more upbeat. You can only see so many computer-generated explosions and disembowellings before it gets tedious.
I agree entirely. I could never watch extreme violence, but I used to watch some of the horror films. These days I settle for being educated or entertained. I really enjoy a good 'thriller', but usually 'Love Actually' will do for me!
Oh naomi! me and you cant be super amazing lovers if you like tripe like that!
If you want a really really good thriller then DONT read anything about it but go buy Primal Fear of play or Amazon its like2 or 3.99 and its awesomey clever!

I love mindless violence but i do occasionally like a very intelligent film and that one is very special!!!!!
Oh but Shermi…… we don’t have to go to the cinema..... ;o)
oh naomi you flirt! always after my pants!!!!!

anyway seriously go watch that film! its amazzzin!
Tut! Can't think what you mean Shermi. I was thinking of quiet evenings of bible study. ;o)

I'll look that film up - thanks - but I still don't understand why anyone loves mindless violence.
Don't watch Green Street then. I must have left the room about 10 times.
Yes I yearn for the Alfred Hitchcock thrillers without the senseless violence in the typical production today. One reason there are so many is that all cultures understand the violence episodes, whether the film is done in their language or not.
Naomi mindless violence is sometimes awesome!
when you cant be assed engaging your brain then its all you want!
plus explosions!!!!! i bloody love explosions!!!!!! i have my own top 5 explosions of all time in films i love them so much!!!!!

the best film is one that use the violence to tell a necessary tale. eg just watched man on fire, its ab out a bodyguard whp protects a girl and when she gets kidnapped he goes mental and gets his revenge!!!!! thats justified violence and thats always ace!!!
Justified violence I find difficult to watch, but I can understand it - but mindless violence? Why? It makes no sense.
well it depends what you class as mindless-theres usually a reason but it think you mean the arnie style pointless action flicks but they can still be good
predator
terminator
my favourite film ever Aliens!!!(god thats so good!!!!)
but fair nuff you probably need more characters to get into to watch a film? so yeah watch primal Fear i really think you will enjoy it!
a quote from the director of the new Avengers movie (not hte one with Peel and Steed, the one with Hulk): “The movie is about finding yourself, Obviously this will be expressed through punching, but it will be the heart of the film.”

Is that justified or unjustified violence? I suspect it was like nudity in the 70s: they were always trying to insist it was justified by the plot, and it always wasn't.

I have a very low violence threshold, justified or not. Doesn't leave me much to watch these days... I had high hopes of Miss Potter but it turned out to be rubbish.
I must admit I like the Terminator films, and Alien, Shermi. I was really talking about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and stuff like that (not that I've seen it!), but you know, the sort of thing where people chop people up and blood and guts spurt everywhere. Predator I've seen but I can't remember much about it.

jno, have you seen 'Possession'? I loved it.

oh then we're in agreement i actually detest those sort of films as well! I have never enjoyed 'torture porn' as its called and yeah wont catch me watching them!

im trying to think of other films for you to watch....See i love intelligent films so heres a few for you:
usual suspects
Heat
oh oh have you seen the pixar film Up yet? that is one of the best films ever!!!!! you have to watch that!!!!!!
Half the time I don't remember which films I've seen and which I haven't, but I'm making a list as we speak. :o)
Lemme know when you have seen any Naomi!!!!
Will do. :o)
