Will you be celebrating our dear Queens platinum jubilee on the 2-5 of June, if she’s spared for it then I hope to organise a street party reminiscent of when she came to the throne, lots of flags and music , I remember 1953 on Coronation Day, it poured down , my Mum dressed me in a lovely blue dress and I wore white knee length socks with red, white and blue crepe paper tabs on elastic, plaits with big r.w.b bows,it was so wet , the dye ran down my new white socks before we went to plan B and had our party in a church hall
Do you have any memories of June 1953, The Coronation?

There's talk of a 'field day' event in our village with live music picnics etc etc.

That’s good Zac , I’m usually the organiser around here so I’ll be printing some fliers to distribute very soon
Get a start with an online or postal pack of ideas and add your party to the map.

The Coronation was just pre Mamya, so no memories of it for me.
Question Author
I tried going on there yesterday morning but it was busy all day Mamya

What about her silver jubilee Mamya?
I had about 6 years of being on a committee organising an Easter event in the last place we lived. Never again.

It’s not easy Zac but someone has to do it :0)
It'll be quite a week for us. It's my husband's birthday on 01 June, his cousin's birthday the following day (we're very close to her and her husband and we're all the same age) and the jubilee will be going on at the same time. I suspect we'll get through a few bottles between us.
Silver Jubilee, we had a very wet weekend away in Blackpool - felt sorry for all those on the decorated floats who got drenched
.

I’m really looking forward to it and hope she’s there to enjoy it
I was very young in 1953 but I remember my grandmother getting a TV for the Coronation. It had a tiny screen and was in a wooden cabinet. At the last Jubilee, my granddaughter got tickets for the concert. She went with a friend and had a picnic meal, provided by the organisers, on the lawn of Buckingham Palace before the concert.

I was just 6and a half Milo ,I can remember the tiny TV set and the black and white images of her beautiful coach
I don’t really remember the images. I remember relatives and neighbours crowding round the tiny screen as Grandma had invited lots of people to watch as she was one of the few people who had a TV. I think it was to show it off as much as for the Coronation.

We had one as my Dad came out of the RAF and worked in Radar systems , gradually moving to radio and TV as an engineer
I was two for the coronation so don't remember it. There was a street party in our cul de sac for the silver jubilee but I was working away from home and missed it. There was a fete on the field near the nursery where I worked but we didn't see too much of it - too busy keeping the children in check!

Will you be doing anything in June Roo?
Can just remember the Coronation and remember well that my paternal Grandmother gave me and my 3 younger siblings coronation mugs that she herself had helped to decorate. She worked in a potbank and did the Gold hand painting but the mugs were made by a number of firms with an approved design that was the same for all manufacturers. We are travelling to Shaldon Devon on the 4th of June and are thinking about getting on the road on Friday 3rd and getting a B&B somewhere near that has something going on.

Sounds fab Togo, I’ve just sent for the pack that Mamya kindly gave me the link for and I’ve set the ball rolling by putting the ‘invite’ on my residents page , we’re quite lucky inasmuch as we are on a pedestrian only street which a wide expanse of grass between our side and the other side, I still have a load of bunting left over from the VE Day celebrations I organised
to young to remember 1953 ,only 2.but silver we lived in gibraltar mr mally marched through gib high street and then to the parade ground where the wives and families sat watching , a couple of matelots passed out in the heat .during the march the navy usually went first but the green jackets were there and they march really fast so they went first .lovely day for everyone x
