Ah, a man's voice then.
Yes sam... I genuinely had never heard of him, but was confused by a man's voice.
The person singing it is/was biologically a man. Im not getting into any narration on how they identify -just saying its a male voice.
It's funny, even without knowing who the singer was and her background, I would've thought it was a woman's voice, but her voice is completely androgynous, so I get the confusion.
Man, I feel like a woman.
I was the opposite, mozz. No idea who it was... but could only hear it as a male voice.

Mozz - // Andy, thank you mate, I clearly overreacted and got a little precious about things, so I too apologise. //

Thank you - I'm glad we are back on track, I hate falling out with people (well, most people anyway!!! LOL!!!!)

// My comparison to Suzanne (remember, I'm a non-musician, so me terminology is probably lacking) was based on the general song structure. Take the beat off this track and the guitar off Suzanne, making them both acapella pieces and the flow and pacing of the two songs are strikingly similar, at least to my untrained ear. //

You are absolutely right, I didn't see, or more accurately, hear it like that, but you are quite correct.

Re. the sound of the voice - I only ever heard it as being a woman's voice - and i do love the sound of it, and the various arrangements of her songs.

I didn't get the 'trans' part either, until Pixie pointed it out.

I'm going to shoot her details to the bookers for the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2021, Covid permitting, it would be wonderful to see her there, and she'd fit right in.
Maybe you could also acknowledge it was a man singing... for those of us who realised? :-)
He sounds a damn sight better as a woman.
Too late :-). But it was obvious, if you listen to it x

douglas - // Man, I feel like a woman. //

As I always say over the mic when dj'ing and I play that song -

"Man I feel like a woman ... but I don't suppose I'll get one!!"

God forbid anyone should take me seriously, I'd have no idea what to do ...

Is that for me?

I can only ever hear a woman's voice, and she looks like a woman in all the images and videos I've seen.
Thanks Andy. That's a great find. very sparse in the arrangement. No fuss. A bit like Cohen in that as well.

Musically, it reminds me more of "Dance Me To The End Of Time" but with a different rhythm.
I still remember buying "Songs of Leonard Cohen" in '67.
Never looked back :o)
It was, Andy, honestly, I have no idea how you heard that as a woman x
Pixie, the fact I saw her name, and Andy's opening blurb before hearing her voice may well have influenced my thinking, but as someone who likes singers like Patti Smith and Polly Harvey, who also have less feminine voices might have helped me pick up on Michelle's female vocal nuances.

I put it down to one of those differences in what people hear and see, and what they make of it.

It's like people telling me that Michael McIntyre is funny ...
Mozz, it wasn't "less feminine" it was male. It's interesting that women seem to be able to tell the difference, but men can't.
Andy, touche! Lol. But that is personal opinion, rather than fact ... so not comparable.
Actually, I can, Andy... but to be fair... you like Carla, who is very masculine. So, there you go. Lol xx
