Well, there's definitely a lot of Leonard Cohen influence. It's basically Suzanne to an electro beat.
Not for me - neither was he.

Mozz - // It's basically Suzanne to an electro beat. //

I think it's about as far from Suzanne as it could be!

A heterosexual man writes a hymn of love to a woman he always koved, a gay woman writes about the decay of relationships - I see nothing in common whatsoever.
I didn't mean lyrically Andy, but arrangement and melody.
That's a man singing? Not as much soul as Leonard.

No, it's a woman.
never got on with Leonard Cohen either
Question Author
Mozz - I thought it was nearer to Kraftwerk than Cohen - there's no acoustic guitar for a start.

I have been a Fan of LC since I was seventeen, and I feel about him the way John Peel always said he felt about The Fall, he simply couldn't understand why everyone didn't love them as much as he did.
Agree with both Mozz and Andy. Lots of Cohen influence but nowt like the brilliant Suzanne.
I sometimes feel blessed to have been alive at the same time both Cohen and Dylan were producing their work.
Ah... it isn't.
She is a Russian born trans woman and the style of her music varies from song to song, but “Roots Goth” like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds seems to be somewhat accurate as a genre descriptive.
my taste don;t lend itself to this type of music to be fair, will give it a listen as i have but not for me
I did say it was to an electro beat Andy. Seeing as you're likely to disagree with everything I say, I'll leave you to enjoy the song.
Michelle's take on 2020, I like some of her output.

As a music writer, I have intense conversations with other writers and musicians who utterly disagree with what I think about some artists and songs, and I love exchanging views with them.

Perhaps it comes over as more confrontational in print with a stranger, but I didn't intend it to be so, and I'm sorry if you felt I was just being argumentative for the sake of it - which I absolutely wasn't.

More Canadian than Russian it seems.
I went with Google, doug...either way, my point was that it clearly is a male singer.
Andy, thank you mate, I clearly overreacted and got a little precious about things, so I too apologise.

My comparison to Suzanne (remember, I'm a non-musician, so me terminology is probably lacking) was based on the general song structure. Take the beat off this track and the guitar off Suzanne, making them both acapella pieces and the flow and pacing of the two songs are strikingly similar, at least to my untrained ear.
