Came across this superb Violinist/Musician busking in Chester last Thursday.
Myself and OH sat and listened to him for some time because he was that good.
Anyone else come across him on their travels ??

Yes, I met him when he was busking in London over twenty years ago - he gave me one of his cassettes (that's how long ago it was!) marvellous player - should have enjoyed more recognition - his was the first electric violin I ever saw.

Busking is begging, does he declare the money he makes to the taxman?

I could not give a toss joeluke !
If he was that good he'd be on the stage and not the street
I saw him busking in Southport with his purple electric violin and was absolutely mesmerised. I have since bought 5 of his CDs - I think he's amazing!
joeluke - "Busking is begging, does he declare the money he makes to the taxman?"

How so? Street musicians do not ask for money - they offer their skill and talent to the passing public who choose if they wish to appreciate it with some financial recompense.

That doesn't fit the definition of begging as I understand it.
joeluke - "If he was that good he'd be on the stage and not the street"

Ability and popularity and public exposure are not linked, and they are very often mutually exclusive.

If I had a pound for every talented musician or band I have seen on streets or in pubs, I could buy my own Carribean island!!

It is perfectly possible that Mr Johnson is perfectly happy with his life as it is, and has no wish whatever to 'be on stage' - it's not compulsory!
