'Pretty Woman' by Roy Orbison-the start is so instantly recognisable and- like most 60's and 70's stuff I know all the words.

Think you will find the song you are referring to was "Answer Me" by Frankie Laine. "Cry" was by Johnny Ray.

So sorry. Of course it is answer me. Problem with me is that I am so slow at typing that l get confused.
Just showing you how old I am Leah!
Mr Tambourine Man, the Bob Dlyan version not that crap The Byrds turned out.
there are so many beautiful songs, I think it all depends on your mood.
At the moment it would have to be 'You to e are everything' by The Real Thing.
60s: several Beatles tracks come to mind: Taxman, Drive My Car, Lucy In The Sky...
70s: Everyday by Slade, Ride A White Swan - T Rex, Blockbuster - The Sweet, January - Pilot.
Then again, I'm not stuck in the past and am currently really into Django Django! (hoping to see them at Glastonbury this year).
I thought the song that was banned due to the "my lord/my love" lyric was by Lena Martell.
my girl and go now sing them all the time (badly)
I liked Frankie Laine singing Cool Water. I have quite a lot of favourites from the 50/60s, Michael Holliday, The Story of My Life. Perry Como, Catch a falling Star. Ella Fitzgerald Swinging Shepherd Blues. Can't remember who sang Pretty Flamingo, Steve Harley - Cockney Rebel (was that the 60's)
Pretty Flamingo was Manfred Mann AyG, there were that many great song about then that it's really hard to pick a favourite, because every time somebody mentions one you think, bloody hell hoe could I have forgot that one.
Ride a white swan -t rex, it was the first single i ever bought with my own money
I could go on all night, the music then was great. I was surprised when my daughter and even my granddaughter said they liked that music too. The first record I bought (78rpm) was Paul Anka - Diana.

Wow. You have all brought back some wonderful memories for me. Thank you.
I remember dancing with my sister all dressed up dancing to 'rock 'n' roll waltz' by Kaye Starr on a 78 in our parents front room. I might still be able to rember all the words at a push!
SNAP! AYG that's the first record I bought too. Played it on my green Dansette record player.
Rock and Roll Waltz brings back memories my Mother in law she used to sing it when she'd had a few. Makes me smle to think of that.
maybe a bit earlier but 'Will you still love me tomorrow - the shirelles
i loved unit four plus two/concrete and the clay
I wasn't born then but I do love California Dreamin' which I think is that era xx
