Depends on the area. I'm not too bothered during the day but would avoid going out at night to some areas locally.

In the dark, probably yes but not late at night - although I have absolutely no need/desire to go to that part of the City. As Ummmm says, its depends where you live. If I didn't feel safe here, we'd have moved.

BM OK....but that was where i was born and lived for 18 years...and as far as i remember there were no crimes other than "petty crimes"..........I wonder if that state of affairs persists today?

The only place I've felt unsafe walking at night is around council estates/high rise blocks in Deptford, South East London in the early 90's.
