Rather than say anything about her time as PM I prefer to say something about her as a local MP... Every christmas she hosted a party for local old people and even my almost communist mother in law said she was lovely... and would not be bothered by other issues during the time she spent there. I also know people who worked at the houses of parliament who found her...

Am I allowed to put what I'd *really* want to say, or are we still being forced to be "respectful"?

-- answer removed --
Arrrhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!

I thought more of you than this Ed. Another thread on it ?
Yes well chain, if you subscribe to a left wing posting site what do you expect?
Ab Editor...the funeral is still ongoing.

Your intending thread lacks respect, compassion and is completely out of order.

Had this been an "ordinary" Aber.......it would be "pulled."

It'll be the last thread on the matter from me.

Say what you like, as if you were addressing the assembled.

If you're going to say something horrible it will be removed, as it usually would be, from the site.
"I'm not a particularly strong critic of Thatcher, but this is a waste of money that we were told was being 'unavoidably' cut and could be put to much better usage."

Oh, I quite liked bits of what she did? I was hoping it would be positive.
perhaps you should have stated "say something nice"

What bull, Krovo.....the money pouring into London from all the TV crews, journalists, dignataries and visitors "to be there" dwarfs the investment. The term is an "offset investment" and is used by many for publicity events.
Question Author
Oh dear. I meant well.
I think you should suspend yourself for a while, Ed ;o)
She was a strong woman and a great leader and did with honour what she thought was right for the country at that time, RIP Maggie

Thanks Brenden. That's the spirit this was intended.
Ding Dong

Every christmas she hosted a party for local old people and even my almost communist mother in law said she was lovely... and would not be bothered by other issues during the time she spent there. I also know people who worked at the houses of parliament who found her courteous, and reasonable and considerate of their work load etc

Sounds like the iron lady had a nice side which we heard too little about.
"If you're going to say something horrible it will be removed"

But why? Why are we being forced into all this false fawning?

We were told to be respectful last week when she died, now we're being told to be respectful because it's her funeral. When is it actually going to be 'OK' to be honest?

That's not actually aimed at this site, it's more a general question with regards to the media.
"he money pouring into London from all the TV crews, journalists, dignataries and visitors "to be there" dwarfs the investment. "

Forgive me if I'm skeptical. £10 million has come out of government coffers for this funeral, and I can't see £10 million being returned.
A eulogy usually concentrates on the positive points of the deceased and their life/works.

If you can't say anything nice, it is better to remain silent........
I hope I would be half as eloquent as the Bishop of London who has given a brilliant and well judged address. I think I would echo his thoughts which were along the lines of "now is not the time for a political assessment - she was a wife, mother and grandmother".

I didn't know her personally, so I guess there is not a lot I could say.
