Sorry Lottie - proves what?

is it that Sir Tom is 'The Voice'?

Not on this he's not - this song is utterly Cohen's - and the 'golden voice' is ironic in his case, which fits the dark humour of the story.

This is just Tom doing what he always does - making it a 'Tom Jones' song, and they all sound alike.

Tom's cod-gospel style is utterly mannered and does not fit here at all.

Pointless.
oitnless.
This is how it should sound ....

Sorry Andy Disagree entirely. Cohen was a good songwriter, but a dreadful singer (and a miserable old fart!!!)
I prefer the Tom Jones version.

There's only one answer to this

Fight!

We'll have to agree to disagree there Lottie.

I have always loved LC's whole appeal - his writing, his voice, and the fact that each utterly compliments the other.

I have never liked TJ - i find him, as I said, mannered, and lacking in range - but I know millions love him.

So we can adopt the approach of civilised adults and each enjoy our own artist and respect the other's choice.

EXCEPT I'M RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xx
We haven't had a decent fight on AB for a while.

I think that it was Mark Rae who said there are only types of music - music you like and music you don't like. :-)

I love Tom Jones and what's more since he has let himself return to grey I think he is a real dish!!

Also a fantastic entertainer and has helped a lot of young artists.

Actually I think Tom Jones has changed his style completely in recent years (sorry Andy). The voice has become softer and more soulful. He has improved with years
I'm certainly with Lottie about Cohen writing great songs, but singing dreadfully. A bit like Dylan in that repsect. And Tom Jones does have a superb voice.

(Sorry, Lottie, but I do quite like Gilbert & Sullivan. I was never that keen on Gilbert O'Sullivan though if that helps)
There is no chance of Lottie and I actually fighting - we are too good friends for that - (and too old to be bnothered!!!!!! xx)
Andy, are you sure this isn't because you realise you're gradually becoming outnumbered by us girlies?
;-)
This isn't much of a fight. What about Sir Cliff squaring up to Sir Elton? (Musically I mean).
Well I don't like either of them, so there.
Question Author
Sir Cliff and Sir Elton and the two singers/celebrities I dislike with a vengeance!!! Ha ha!!
