My husband has said that he wants me to cut the shopping bill down and has suggested I start buying supermarket own brands. However there are some things that I refuse to compromise on, coffee and washing up liquid for example. What three things would you not buy from the supermarkets own brand range. Shampoo is my last one.

Your other half sounds like he is being practical rather than a skin flint. I'm happy with most own brand things; there's only a few things on the economy brands that I won't buy.

Own brand are just as good in a lot of cases although I tried an own brand box of cornflakes and it tasted like bits of cardboard. I threw it in the recycling bin in the end. I think it was Lidl's but I'm not sure as it was some time ago.

I always buy branded things. If I had to then the three things would also be cereal, chocolate and tea bags

The only thing I won't cut down on coffee, everything else is Tesco's smart price stuff, or Co op's reduced stuff, who I work for.

Tesco's chocolate buttons are really good - equally as good as Cadbury's and much cheaper.

1. Toilet roll. Only Cushelle will do in the tiggy household.
2. Washing powder.
3. Washing up liquid. Has to be Fairy original.

Cornflakes. Everything else is ok, even Rice Krispies, but Kelloggs Corn Flakes just cannot be replaced.
