Road tax expired on 31st of December so I duefully renewed it last week. However, a few months I needed to replace the holder and decided I would spend 15 on one of these that screws up at the back. Unfortunately I now can't remove the back so I have placed the current tax disc on the dashboard so it is still visibal through the window however it does mean the old disc is still showing. Could I get in to any bother for this?

I would suggest that you affix the valid tax disc to the nearside of the car's windscreen to ensure it is adequately displayed. It may save a lot of bother.
Follow kempie's advice even if you use a bit of sellotape.

The law is you must show the valid tax disc inside the lower left front window, there's no law that says you cannot leave an old one on.
