I am going to buy a car soon and have been told the insurance group will be 7! This is my 1st car so i've never done this before and have no idea what this means.

Can anyone give me anymore info? How much will it be?

Sorry if it's a stupid question.

it depends on other factors such as your age, driving experience, any accidents, where you live, any convictions, age and value of the car.

You could go onto www.elephant.co.uk for a ballpark figure, and put in approximate details.

I`ve always found Elephant to be expensive, try:http://www.insuresupermarket.co.uk/

However be prepared for a shock if you are under 21 and it is your first car. personally I would go for a car with a lesser group until a no-claims bonus is built up.

A useful site to find relevant insurance groups and car values is: http://www.parkers.co.uk

look up all different insurance companies like directline and then go to there websites, most offer free insurance quotes online
Cars are put into groups for insurance purposes, ie. a small car with a relatively little engine and no 'sporty' modifications would be down in say groups 2-5. A larger car with a more powerful engine would be up in groups 10-15 and so on. Group 7's not bad, but coupled with  your age and inexperience, may still prove costly. Have a look at www.screentrade.co.uk
