I always thought it was VW due to it's famous acquisitions of other various motor companies. But I found out recently that it needed Porsche to jointly fund a 4x4/SUV model with VW getting the Touareg and Porsche getting the Cayenne out of the deal...

VW is the biggest car manufacturer in germany by volume alright. It is common theses days for all motor companies to go into JV's (Joint ventures) with other companies in design and development on the major components, chasis etc. Look at a Volvo truck, and a Renault truck, - whip of the bandges etc. you got the same vehicle.
