i have a classic mini ,need help ,when my fuel tank reaches just below half full ,it competely cuts out ,as if it has run out of petrol ,to get it started again ,i ony have to put a little petrol in to the tank and it starts straight away ,gauge is okay ,so now i have to carrya can of petrol in my boot ,can anyone help ,been to garages but they are no help ,thanks a mini lover

The fuel supply and return lines have been swapped around either ontop of tank or engine bay. the fuel return pipe in the fuel tank does not go all the way to the bottom of the tank hence you run out of fuel.

I needed to add that if the fuel pipes are correct, then the fuel pick up pipe has a hole at the level you "run out" of fuel in the tank.

the fuel tank was taken off before i had welding done on my car forgot to mention that

thanks nk tried what you said seems to be okay now ,
Sometimes replacing the Fuel pump and fuel filter and adding fuel cleaning additives solves these types of problems. *This is for anyone else that might not have solved their similar fault.
