What is the best way to undo them in a Mondeo?

Hi, this is a must, make sure you have the right size socket or you will be in sht street, check the plug size with a plug socket.

I thought THAT nightmare had long disappeared, both good answers above, but if you have access to an air impact wrench, you might be able to free them without using too much brute force,

You idiot! An impact wrench on a spark plug! Don't be so daft ... This method may well tear out the threads and leave you with a cylinder head change.
They are not a big plug in a Mondeo. Warm engine and use a proper spark plug wrench. May need a jolt to free. If are tight after one turn, work back and forth with some WD40 down the holes.
