A friend regrets buying a Y reg van last week with unglazed rear windows. He would feel much more confident driving it if it had windows. Is it an expensive job to have these professionally fitted or, better still, can a competant DIYer do the job?

Hi, the way to go about this task is to purchase the windows + rubbers 1st check on EBay or the likes you should get the set for around 40, to do the job is another matter, my advice on the is to get a ten plate then marker the area to be cut, but a word of advice, you only get one attempt ( If you know what I mean!! )
by the time you have removed the blanks, bought the seals and glass it would probably be cheaper trying to find a pair of second hand doors with glass fitted and just bolt them on.
might be cheaper and easier to fit a rear view camera.

Check Ebay, you can get a camera for 25 or a full kit including monitor for under 100.

That won't compromise the security of the rear of the van either.

Good luck
It's only practice...After a while, he will never miss rear windows...and as a security feature, think about it...they are easy to fit...and they are dead easy to remove... just before they get your tools out.
