don,t be afraid to start bargaining start with an offer of 10,000
I agree, start silly low and work up, then try for a years TAX (if not already got it) try for a full tank of fuel, push your luck worst they will say is no, don't be afraid to walk away either, they will often call you back if they really think you are walking away.
Lauralane, I will give you something to think about, You have the money, you have the time, Lastly there are plenty of Dealers that want your money & there are plenty of cars out there.

I was thinking of 13000 that ok?
TWR is right, haggle first.start as brian j john says and keep driving at the price, if not happy walk away. and go somewhere else, i know this is difficult when you have set your heart on a particular car,
But don't forget these dealerships work on high profit margins, as they have to give you a warrnty, and guess who's paying for that,
I have worked for years as a car sales man and every car we retail has an 1800 mark up worked into it's price,I know that seems high but some cars need more work than others to get them to a a warrantable standard. If you are cash customer and want the car mot'd, serviced, valeted, fuelled, i'd for begin at a 500 discount if you have no trade in,Do Not Sign On Your First Visit!!!! Get his best price and tell him it's ok but you want to sleep on it,come Monday night when the showroom is quiet he will start to re evaluate how much he wants you to buy a car from him,and probably call you asking you in for a chat to see if he can improve his offer.
If it's a Brand New Car which you shouldn't buy because of the VAT (17.5%)To the Government ,You want mega low rate finance ie.8%flat and free insurance and every accessory available.
If you want to part exchange your car(don't, sell private) you'll weaken your deal and I'd suggest www.********trader.co.uk,but have your wits about you,for scams
PS Brian J John Offering 10k for a 13500 is EXTREMELY STUPID.The only way a car dealer could get to that figure and make a slight profit is by ommitting the safety checks to make your car roadworthy,I would ask you leave to my showroom because i'd never put out a car that wasn't 100% u should be buying down the at the scrap metal merchants and even then I'd report you to the police for driving a substandard car.I agree in fair competition and I expect to discount, but 20% of a perfect vehicle is absurd, please do your sums before you quote these ridiculous figures,to the more sensible buying public yes we do make a profit,we have families,it's a job but lunatics wanting 3k discount may as well shut as down down now and you can make your own mistakes with no guidance from people that understand the industry, unlike you Mr John

Sign at 12,995 full tank and a years road tax, keep walking out if they say no but call in twice a week to see if they have changed their minds do not buckle and be prepared to walk away,on a quiet day they will jump at your order, they will!!
