Hi,

I'm probably going to word this in a really 'bird like' way but hopefully iy will make sense to you guys.

I own a Fiat Punto - 2 years old. Never had any problems with it until last night when I parked it on the drive went to get out the drivers door although when I pulled the handle to get out it made a sound like 'clunk', the door wouldn't open and now when you pull the inside handle to get out it's like it doesn't connect i.e. you know when your front door is on the latch and the handle just moves up and down but doesn't connect with the bit that would keep the door shut if it closes...well, its like that. By the way you can open the door perfectly fine from the outside and it hasn't affect the locking system unless you try and lock it from the inside.

I dont know whether it will be covered by the garage as in my opinon its faulty.

Anyone got any idea what it could be? Or how much i should expect to pay to fix it? Or whether its something I can do myself with a bit of guidence.

Thanks for your help

Sounds as though it's broke. The inside handle is connected to the lock by a metal rod, it's either broke or come off. The handle can be removed, it's held in place by one screw hidden behind the scratch plate behind the handle. At worst, the door panel will have to come off.
It will take longer to remove the panel than repair the handle
in most fiats you will find that it connected via a metal cable.

Remove the door panel, from the inside, and you will see the whole mechanism.

Typical fiat, when they break is the most stupid of things...luckily!
