I was waiting to pull out of a junction earlier today and went into the back side of a car. This is what happened.

I looked for a gap to pull into and there was one coming up so I checked the other way and there was a car indicating to turn into the road I was pulling out of so I looked the other way again and pulled out into the gap and went into the back side corner of his car. I'm guessing it is my fault because I should of checked he was definitely turning. He said he turned the indicator off before he got to the junction because his wife asked him to carry on down the road. I'm guessing this is still my fault because I should of waited till he turned into the road before moving off. Just wondered if anyone knew for certain if this is my fault. Any answer appreciated. No comments about women driver please!

Thanks in advance.

Think it will be classed as your fault because you didn''t check he was going to turn.
as far as i am aware, you should not rely on another person's indicator, as he may have left it on accidentally, or be signalling something else. sorry, but it appears to be your fault! on the other hand, he should take responsibility for his own driving, not blame his wife. he was behind the wheel after all!

Thanks for your replies. It's only my car that has damage, the bumper snapped in half, so haven't got worry about insurance claims or anything. Thanks for your help, Kind regards, Kim
Down to you I think, mate.

This type of collision is very common especially on roundabouts - and very easy to make a mistake. Try to remember the useful saying ' Last Look Front' before moving ahead.

Good luck.

Thanks. Yes will definitely be more vigilant in future, if I ever get back in the car! little scared now.
It is soooo annoying when folk indicate to turn, then dont ! Equally when people dont indicate, then turn off!
I feel it for you. If we all waited to check if these folk actually followed their indicators, the roundabouts would be jammed solid and horns tooting everywhere.
Shame it happened tho.
You need to get right back in and drive NOW. If you wait you might not be able to drive again due to fear.

Everyone keeps saying that I should get straight back out there. It's as much because I have social anxiety and lots of people were driving past and looking, that's what really bothered me.

He was indicating and slowing but his wife wanted to go to the shops so he carried, and he admitted that it was a last second change, but still think should of checked again. I do know a couple of people that have had bumps due to indicators.

I share a car with my Dad and he was just happy that I wasn't hurt and that it was only our car damaged, saves a lot of hassle with not having to worry about insurance claims.

Keep looking back at it and thinking well if I hadn't of done this, if this hadn't have happened. Just got to try and put it out of my mind cause it has happened now.

Sorry for rambling on!

Thanks to everyone that has replied.

Kim
In all seriousness, if you have social anxiety then go and see your doctor and ask for some fluoxetine tablets. They don't make you sleepy or anything but just take that "edge" off those anxious or fearful moments. Good luck and put this behind you as a learning experience.

Thanks for your reply Dassie. I've already been seeing the doctor for a year for Depression and am on Cipralex anti-depressants. I have to see a psychologist for the social anxiety, I was only told that I had this about a month ago. Was doing well with it as well until now. Never mind, I'm sure it will get better soon!
