I was on a very enjoyable boat trip down the Danube over the weekend and found complete strangers waving at me from the shore and also from other boats and I waved back. It occurred to me that people never wave at each other from other forms of transport like cars or trains, coaches or bikes so why just boats?

a girl at work hires a luxury yacht in the Med every year and she says the best part about it is the people waving at them from the shore thinking they are superstars or something lol
would u not think i was a bit weird if i started waving to you if you were sitting opposite me on the tube...?

Suppose on a boat - one on land and one on water....? not really sure..
I think "boat people" are just nicer! I live on a canal and peple on boats always talk to us
Motorbike riders always aknowledge each other, usually with a nod of the head. I drive a smart car and drivers always aknowledge another smart car by waving
i suppose its just that its not everyday you see a boat, where as cars, trains, bikes are everyday for us.
Trust me, people wave at you on a train, i drive the bl00dy things on a daily basis.

And no, i don't wave back.
I have noticed people wave from trains! also you have the people who drive certain cars will wave at each other, when I was driving a land rover or range rover, people driving the same vehicles would wave, also motorcyclists always nod or give some sort of acknowledgement.

I remember hiring a boat for the first time on a long weekend and cruising down the Thames, I was so pleased to see one of those long canoe type boats with loads of guys in (you know, the boat race things!!) all waving at us, we politely waved back.
After they passed we saw the size of our wake just before it sank them!! oooops!!

Well they give you a speed limit to drive down the Thames but there ain't no speedo in the boat!!!
I wave at people on train when I'm waiting at a crossing, kids wave on school busses if I'm stuck behind them. Would be a bit weird in cars. and laurance you're just a meanie :-(
i would wave at you 4get :-(

The reason i don't wave the majority of the time is because the majority that tend to wave at us are teenagers, i don't want to stereotype all of these, but teenagers throw allsorts of things at trains, its the wave to the driver routine, and when you wave back ...........................
Well I was on the A23 the other day and overtook a Sunshine Variety minibus. Not only did all the children wave at me but at least 7 of them licked the window.

my husband is a sailor and he says it's a luck and tradition thing that you should wave at other people you see in boats.
they were sticking there tongue out lion
I was in Norfolk last year & some people were pointing at aeroplanes :)))
My Mum always used to do the Queen's wave when she was leaving in the car, she had a very droll sense of humour, she used to sign the letters to school, Elizabeth Windsor, the teachers at the Grammar School never commented on it!
this has been relocated lol I would have put it in travel myself
Here in Ireland the majority of people will wave to you from their car when you're away from main roads...
I also drive trains, but I guess not the same type that laurence drives. In fact I drive steam engines on a heritage railway and almost everyone waves at me. Our line runs along side a river for several miles, at this time of the year it is very busy with pleasure craft, I often give them a friendly whistle and their "drivers" always wave back. So here we have people on trains and boats greeting each other!
i live in a high rise flat and often when im having a PORNO nite with me and my drunken girlfriends we go to the window and wave hahah u should see their faces !!
