What should I do after an 'accident'"

I had a bump with another car at some traffic lights last night (due to rain I skidded into him.)

The male driver got out of his car, looked at his bumper and then got back in his car. The female driver to the car on my right got out and said the man in front of me had been speeding and driving 'madly'.

However, no details were swapped and he just sped off when the lights turned green. Should I worry about this, or phone up my car insurance and say that I've had a bump with an unknown car and wait to see if he claims?

Personally I would do nothing. It is your fault if you hit the back of him, but effectively he has chosen to take no action by driving off.

Any bad driving of his previous to this is irrelevant.
i wouldnt bother as he is legally entitled to claim your insurance so i would take it as a blessing in disguise!!
He was probably driving with no licence or insurance.

Ok, thanks people.

A colleague said he might have had no tax or insurance as he was in a hurry to get out of there.

Other than that, there was no major damage, I had chipped his bumper and cracked my license plate.
He's probably just not that anal over his car- I've done the same thing, been bashed from behind and not got all het up over it- was it an old car? This is one reason why people, particularly in London, use 3 or 4 hundred quid cars as daily drivers, you're going to get the odd dent or scratch and if you get steamed up over it and go running to the insurers every time it happens you'd kill yourself with the stress!!

I was hit on Stratford broadway- I think the chap who ran into the back of my car thought I was going to kill him, but it was only minor scratching and it's only a car, so I just told him not to worry and left.....lifes too short!!
