If you know everything to be above board, then you can just apply for a new V5 document, though it may take a few weeks. Meanwhile just apply for your tax disc online where you don't need to 'produce' one.
You can fill in a V62 and use that when you apply for Tax. Then a new V5C will be sent back to you. You won't be able to apply on line as suggested by McNoodle because as you have just bought the car DVLA will not have records of your insurance/Mot etc so you will have to go to a post office.
Your friends insurance may still be valid...
Hi,
Just to let you know, Loosehead is right. You can fill in a V62, available from licence issuing post offices or DVLA local Offices, but this will cost you 19.00.
You must not use vehicle or even park it on the public road whilst unlicensed, it must be on private property. As you risk getting a fine or you may get vehicle clamped/towed away !!
Hmmm - they can't find the logbook. I'd be suspicious.
why not get your friend to get a duplicate log book then any extra expense incurred will be theirs. my stepson inquired about getting a log book as he had lost his and although they said he'd have to pay he pleaded ignorance and they let him off and sent him a new one which only took a few days. once your friend gets the new log book you can apply for the tax then, but like it has already been said don't use it or park it on the road!
Chevvy, you don't need a new log book to apply for a tax disc a completed V62 will do.
yes you are right loosehead, my mistake. however, if you have to apply for a new or duplicate log book they want you to pay a fee for that
