What is the process of (swapping) road fund licence from my old car to my new one . It runs out in May 2007 . Please dont tell me that I have to purchase a new one for 6/12 months and send this one back to the DVLA .... Please .

Sorry but that is exactly what you will have to do.
you will need to tax your new vehicle from afresh. you can't just have it swapped over. you can get a refund on your old vehicle road tax. if you bought it as a 6 month tax you will get back a percentage for each month unexpired minus a small charge for admin. if you bought a 12 month tax you will get back a percentage without the admin charge.

Thanks for confirming this . A friend of mine said this what he thought you had to do but wasnt 100% sure so I thought I would put it to the experts . Thankyou once again .
To get a refund, you need to fill in form V14 and attach the old tax disc to it. You only get complete months refunded, so make sure you do it well before the end of the month. Forms available from Post Office (I think) and your local DoT/VOSA office.
I did this recently - no bother at all. Cheque issued pronto -surprisingly hassle free. As SSD says don't leave it , the sooner the better as complete months only returned. I got the form from the Post Office.
