Hi guys, I have just started my Focus 2005 1.6 petrol up and two spark plugs have just blown out of the engine!I have since been told that the water washers drip into the channel housing and corode the plugs.Has anyone else had the same problem.

sorry les, but i would have thought it impossable (almost) for plugs to be blown out of the engine !!!!
the thread on a plug is designed to withstand far more pressure than the 150psi a petrol engine produces !
even if water was dripping constantly onto your plugs, it would take "years" for the thread to corrode that bad.
plus, when you start the engine it would dry out !

Hi funkymoped, apparently water from the washer jets gathers into the plastic channel where the plugs are and seeps down into where they are screwed in and rusts them away! Its in the garage at the moment and I am hoping they will fix it under warranty. Thanks for your answer and I will let you know what the result is. Les

I have looked into the hole where the two remaining plugs are and it is full of water?

Got my Fiesta (05, 17000 miles) back last night from a Ford dealer. The porcelain centre blew out of a plug on Friday due to corrosion from water collecting around it. The dealer said it was from rain water leaking in around the washer jets. They fit new jets with seals and new plugs whenever a car goes in for a service, but as it's not a safety issue there has been no recall. No charge!

davewr, exactly the right answer. On another point,I ahve had a bad 'creaking' sound coming from the front of this Focus and apparently its from the track=rod ends having the wrong grease on them. This is also being fixed under warrenty. Thanks for the anwsers guys.
That is so strange exactly the same thing happended to my car yesterday also a 2005 1.6 focus - all 4 plugs came out with a bang when i was trying to start it - had to get the AA out who were convinced it was the head gasket gone but have just heard from the garage that its the wiper jets which leak and corode the plugs. Obviously a common fault that ford haven't bothered to do a recall on.

My Fiesta is ok now, although it took hours to clean off all the rusty water stains - it looks as though they used an air line to clear the water. I'm not convinced about how the water got there. There is a lip about 13 mm high around the plug recesses and a drain hole in the end of the chanel. I have never noticed any signs of a leak onto the top of the air filter. Any ideas where the water comes from?
