if i buy a tom tom sat nav, how often would it need updating and how do i update it ? do i have to buy something extra or do it through the computer - i am a technophobic so treat me gently !

Updates are done on your pc by linking the unit and running the appropriate software. You need to pay a subscription charge though. Have a look on www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk - you can get your updates on there ( including 'safety' cameras ) and it's cheaper than the manufacturers option.

However, sofware updates are free.

If you want to update any of the maps, then they charge for that.

You don't NEED to pay any subscription charge if you just want to use it as it is.
