I've just got a 3 1/2 yr old saxo however it doesn't have power steering, (although its not too bad because its only a small car) but i'd still be interested in finding a way to get it. I've heard it's really expensive, I was just wondering how expensive and what it involved ? Thankyou xx

It,s not just a matter of bolting on power steering, it is a lot more complicated, it would be better to change your car.
As Tourman says, if you want power steering get another car.

I know that a lot needs changing but all I'm asking is how much roughly it costs to do it all, no-one will give an answer. I know it depends on the car but how much generally for a saxo..

Its hard to price, i know citroens tend to be expensive for parts, so dont quote me but you'll need at least a p/s pump not sure what a citroen one is but anywhere from 250.00 upwards a rack will set you back at least 350.00 (some racks touch 600-700) then you need pipes say 120.00 upwards for the pressure ones & probaly the same for the return pipes if its got a p/s fluid cooling pipe then one of them to, you might not even get it to fit, the engine might not have anywhere for the pump bracket to bolt to, the steering column might be different beacuse the racks different thats you will also need a reservoir for your p/s fluid if it's not built onto the pump, this is providing citroens use mechanicle power steering as oppose to electrical power steering, thats just the basics theres a lot more involved & the prices may be a lot more than what i've said on top of that you've got to find someone to do the job, hope this is of some help but it's not a task i would undertake without seriously looking at it finacially its like other people have said it would pprobaly be better to buy a car with p/s as standar.

Thanks shadowthief that's what i was wanting to know, it has been of great help as i really was thinking about it. I may look to find some used parts if poss and see, but i think i will just stick with it as the car is really nice apart from and am now getting a lot more used to it just because i have only ever learned in a car with power steering before . Thankyou for the info though as i didn't know anything about it before and has been v helpful.
