i just got flashed by a speed camera! it was a 30mph speed limit and im absolutley sure i was not even a smidgen over 31 i was at like 30.5 if u can even get that. Plus it was a double flash when i passed it but there was another car on the other side of the road travelling pretty fast, although its not meant for that side.

But what are the chances i'll get fined or receive points on my license?

There may not be any film in the camera. :)

If you are going to get 'done' for speeding you should receive your Notice of Intended Prosecution within 14 days.

If you do, the chances of not being fined and pointed are remote.

Some cameras can be turned so that they check each direction in turn, so the flash may have been for the other vehicle.

The notice of intended prosecution must be posted to you (but not necessarily received by you) within 14 days.

I can understand you being worried but if what you are saying is correct then you will be ok. These cameras are not generally set bang on the set limit ( 30 in this case ). It was probably triggered by the other vehicle you mention. The average motorist is a 'soft' target for these things and in my opinion they do nothing for road safety - what is needed is a better presence of traffic police so that all the nut jobs can be caught and dealt with.

if you are sure you were not speeding, send a covering letter stating the car going the other way triggered it.the lines on the road will prove your speed 'cos you will travel over a set distance at 30 mph in the half a second apart that the photos are taken at. the car on the other side will have travelled a greater distance.(even if no lines there plod can work it out)

don't do anything untill the notice of prosecution appears though.

If the oncoming car was going to fast it would have been the one to trigger the camera.
