I have recently bought another car and I have the dashcam that connect into the cigarette lighter. Obviously not noticing this at the time. The problem is that the power is on all the time, so I have to take it out manually to disconnect. On a previous vehicle I had a similar thing where there was no supply, and I took it out and reconnected it and it was ok. Someone I asked about it said it's a difficult problem because of the wiring (the wiring being the problem). any comments?

is removing the plug such a big problem?
or maybe you could have the dashcam wired directly to a supply that DOES cut out with the ignition.
It's not difficult to add an extra cigarette lighter socket which is only live when the ignition is on. I've done it with my car and an auto-electrician should have no problem doing it for you.
One might have thought you'd want it on permanently, otherwise how do you identify the hit & 'run' when you left it parked ?

Otherwise, no idea, does the manual state it should be off when stopped ? Perhaps ask the garage.
There's no big problem fitting a trailing lighter socket as long as the cable on the dashcam is long enough. Even if it isn't it can be extended but in either case the connection can be hidden away but still be removable when you next change cars.

If you're not confident enough to do it yourself then it's not expensive to have it done.
You need a dashcam hard wire kit like this

The short length of red wire with a 'fuse' on the end allow you to plug straight into an ignition protected fuse...say the heated rear window, and you just run the wire back to your camera...dead easy. Oh, and the heated rear window still works and is fuse protected.
