Can a VW passat tdi 1.9 easily pull a standard 1 horse box & horse?

We have a Citroen 1.9 Hdi which pulls our 5 berth caravan (weight approx 1000Kg) very well. The important thing is the ratio of the weight of the car to the towed vehicle. The towed vehicle should not be more than 80% of the weight of the tow car for a novice tower. More tips on towing can be found on the Caravan Club website
