my 98 vw polo has recently started giving me problems at low revs, the car acts as if it were runing out of fule, then if i rev it up seams ok,
everytime i get stop the idle seams to fluctuate and then pulling off it takes a time to get any power and after 3000revs gose ok again
the exasut isnt in top shape at the moment but it shouldnt effect the car so badly should it.

if your exhaust is knackered it will affect the way the ecu instructs the fueling system - get a new exhaust
Worth checking the air breather hose first (see your Haynes Manual but it connects to the air filter box). These have a habit of getting clogged on the Polo.
this fault is commenly due to a dirty throttle body. the dirt and oil residue causes the flap inside to play up it needs to be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner that is safe for cats and on some models needs to be readapted with a diag computer
