Hi, I am have an acceleration issue with my 1.4 diesel yaris. When setting of in 1stvit is fine by when I change it to 2nd gear it I'd hard to speed up with full foot down on pedal. I have taken it in for diagnostic but nothing on the computer has come up. I have used redex with no success. Any ideas folks? Thanks

maybe the mass airflow sensor needs cleaning or replacing try cleaning it first
Question Author
Forgot to mention the mass airflow sensor looks fine and I have given it a clean with tissue paper. I think I should have used a spray for electrical parts. Thanks
Question Author
Is a mass air flow sensor cleaning spray same as an electrical circuit cleaning spray?
I would try it with an air-duster - nothing to lose.

I'm surprised the computer-diagnostics didn't identify the problem (was it a Toyota dealer?). Several years ago my Volvo suffered from an airflow sensor problem (I feared it was the turbo) - the Volvo dealer diagnosed it, replaced it and the car was back to normal - I can't replace it costing a fortune but, then, I was expecting a new turbo.

I have cleaned the mass air flow sensor with the spray cleaner but with no success. It cost me £4 so not much lost. The diagnostics was run by an experienced garage owner but not a Toyota dealer. I did take it on the motorway for a blast and did notice blue smoke when I had it in 2nd gear on the slip road. I think my next step is to add those Wynn's product that clean the turbo and egr valve. :-(
I think you'll be spending good money after bad if you do. Get it to a Toyota dealer - they're familiar with all the quirks.

I always find that the dealers are very expensive. I may have to go there in the end. Thanks bjg481.

Yep, way to go.

Diagnostics will show nothing unless the engine management light has been on so it can store the fault in the ECU.
Just a thought, have you checked the the air filter isn't clogged up or that the EGR valve is working properly. Or maybe checked the boost pipes for leaks ( turbo ).
Question Author
The air filter is fine. I tried taking the egr valve but there is one bolt which is really hard to get to. My usual mechanic said he will have a closer look at it next weekend. I shall keep u all updated. Thanks
sounds like the turbo is not working to me
Question Author
Just to let you people know the car is back to normal. It cost me £12 to purchase Forte turbo diesel turbo cleaner and I then put it into the fuel tank add added a full tank of diesel. After finishing the fuel and getting over 300 miles from it there is no limp mode. It looks like the vanes on the turbo were clogged. I will have to do this once a year for maintenance and I have saved myself a lot of money. Thanks again for all your suggestions.
