/// better than the previous test where you can pass a driving test, never having been over 30mph ///

Are there not roads with a 40, 50 and 60mph limits between 30 and 70 mph limit roads?
//motorways, which is simply one more lane.//

I don’t agree with that. Motorways are often much more than just one more lane. The junctions and lanes alone can be quite complex especially when other motorways and major roads join.

What?

I take it you've not driven on many motorways then.

Oh my! I suppose we should be grateful that's only your opinion.

Getting onto the motorways is a lot more complicated than getting onto a dual carriage way.

I think it's a good idea actually because there is for example a nasty little M40 merges with the M42 interchange with a junction attached to it and it's like an LA Freeway just there, so it's inappropriate that the firs time anyone encounjters that is when they are on their own having just passed their test, I'd rather they were in a car with a proper instructor and dual controls tbh.

Spath...for me to get onto the M1 I have to go round a 4 lane roundabout. At busy times if you're in the wrong lane you won't be able to change lanes. That might make learners panic.

I'm just pleased that the people who make the rules recognise the danger rather more than Spath does.

Oh dear.
I've been driving a long time and I hate motorways, give me a country lane any time. OH completely disagrees and says motorways are the safest places. It's the way some of the lorry drivers are, not all of them of course, just the ones such as one the other day who was slowly drifting across the lanes, tiredness I would imagine.
