Are you up to mischief? If not, I know this may seem a wee bit radical but WHY NOT 'PHONE THEM AND ASK!!!!!!!!

tehy are constantly engaged...

Apart from the obvious suggestion from TCL - if it's important they will get back to you - if not, don't give it another thought littlemissx
Don't know for certain but it could be a mortgage company; I googled 229500 (switchboard number?) and that's what came up

Well littlemissx I have been receiving calls from the same number and like you get the ''busy tone'' when I try to call back!! I am curious as to who it is too though!! he he

i now know!!!! its a phone company trying to get you to join the network "3" my contract is due to run out soon and i bet yours is too.... i told them in a polite way where to shove their calls and i would never join "3" as its the worst network ever!!!
yes i have recived them and yes my contract is nearly run out is it definatly three then?

I've been having missed calls from this number too, and get an engaged tone when I try to call them back. I can't answer the call, as they always call when I'm at work, at pretty much the same time.

How can I stop them from calling me?

i had the same phone call 5 minutes ago they said they were O2 and would like to know if i would like to change my contract to a different network which is a bit strange seing as i am an O2 customer!
I am also getting calls from these people and they are really becoming a nuisance. Is there anyone we can report them to?
I had a call from them today and I had missed calls from them in the past. After the 'your phone contract is comming to an end' the girl said how much do you spend a month, I said about 24, she said are you on a low tariff?, I said 20 a month and she put the phone down on me!

I have to say I cant believe the cheek of these people But I am going to write a letter to 3 and see what they have to say about it. I know that these people are one step up from flipping burgers at MacDonalds but do they have to be so rude???

This is a company called Landmark Communications - they get hold of mobile phone nos and contract expiry dates and phone you two months early to get you to switch to them.

They are entirely independent and an absolute pain in the wotsit.

There are two ways to get rid of them - bar them from calling your phone (if you have that option), or call the Telephone Preference Service and have your number removed from 'dialling lists' - then it is illegal for them to call you. The TPS is 0845 070 0707.

Many many thanks all of you! I have been receiving these calls for some weeks; when I try to answer there is nobody there and when I try to call back always busy! What pees me off is that Phones4U have sold them my details WITHOUT my permission!! What can do about that apart from end my "relationship" with them???

BBC Watchdog- I have just submitted a request as I get these calls from 2 companies - mostly annoying whole abroad! Please all do the same and we can stop it!"!!!

Thanks for all the info, i've been getting exactly the same thing. I don't think its a problem with '3' or 'Phones4u' because I'm with '02' and getting the same thing.

yer they phoning me as well have told the two time were to go and yet they still ring me.

next time its not going to be polite.

I have had these calls along with others

Hi, a quick update. I had quite a long (and friendly!) chat with one of the callers from Landmark and he said that the managers at the call centre routinely put everyone's phone number back into the dialler, even when you tell the caller to remove you from the list - it is a hard-sell tactic to wear you down so you'll eventually listen to the sales pitch.

He stressed that they are not connected to an actual Network and they source our phone numbers independently - he would not say where from though.

As before, the only way to stop them calling is contacting the Tel Pref Service and having it removed from ALL lists - but this means your own network/bank/credit card/gas/electric etc. will be barred from calling you. Alternatively, just hang up without saying anything!

I get them too. I've searched the net and it seems to be a company marketing ploy. They hang up and you call back, thus they don't pay for the call. I've complained to my mobile company and to BT, awaiting a response.
Me too - with Phones4U. They woke me up 2 days in a row (I work shifts). What is worse, on the first day my wife answered for me and they just hung up! On the second day I answered, and the guy could not hear me - gets himself ratty and says: "I'LL ASK FOR THE THIRD TIME, IS THAT MR -------- " then hangs up! I rang thier customer services line & said to take me off thier list - but since they are not my phone provider and I've NEVER told them my details, and I don't give my mobile number out, I have to wonder where my details came from too....
