Why does my front wheel drive Kia Cee'd have a button to turn off the traction control? Why would I want to do that? If it was rear wheel drive I could understand it as it would let me do powerslides and doughnuts like I did in the Viva in my boy racer days. But putting an 'off' switch for TC on a front wheel drive car is akin to putting 'disaster' switch on the dash instead.

You will find that the traction control cuts power to the wheel that is "slipping" and diverts the power to the wheel that has traction, it will also prevent the engine from racing when wheel slip is detected, which ironically will mean that you do not have enough engine revs/power to move the vehicle, not what you want if you are in a snow situation. By turning the TC off you can maintain the engine revs better.
It is almost as pointless as a front wheel drive car full stop! Your boy racer inner self must be covering his eyes in embarrasment. FWD kia C'eed! F_F_S!
...I bet its a pink one :-)
Clarkson and co actually quite liked the Kia C'eed when it was their reasonably priced car.
