I have just set up a 5.1 surround sound system on my PC and would like to play a good DVD to test it in all it's glory. Can anyone suggest a good'n? Unfortunately I'm not into "shoot em up, car chase, blood and thunder" type films, which really puts the kybosh on the whole thing. Even so, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

jurassic park??
Amelie has a fantastic soundtrack (and DTS)
U571 has good surround sound effects, feels like you're in the sub, but it might be the type of film you're not into.

The best things for surround sound are the "Dolby Digital" or THX ads at the beginning of the movie. I like the cows mooing at the start of Monsters Inc. The movie's good too!
Close Encounters of the third kind uses the facility brilliantly.
13 ghosts is gory but not in a shoot em up kind of way, the sound blows you away

Prefer 'Chocolat' to 'Amelie' - great blues.

Also try 'Braveheart', NOT for the action scenes but for the quieter 'ethereal' moments (musically).

Thanks for all the suggestion folks, I bought a copy of In The Flesh Live by Roger Waters yesterday and that sounds rather good. I'll try and obtain some of the titles you suggested later.
