thanks guys !!!!
Although older cars might suffer from more problems than a new car – that it not necessarily the case. On the plus side, a new car does not require an MOT until its 3rd birthday. But the two big negatives for new cars are the depreciation and the servicing required to maintain the warranty.

And if you are not a cash buyer, added to the above must be the interest on any loan. You are also likely to be charged a higher insurance premium, being fully comp. on a new car.

Even on a £10,000 new car, the additional costs over running your 10 year old C3 are likely to be of the order of £3,000 a year. And that will pay for a large number of repairs on your C3.

thanks Hymie thats really helpful. Some serious decision making to do !!!
Mazda were doing a 0% deposit with zero finance a few weeks ago. Can't beat that.
Have you thought about an ex motobility,I know they're over three years old but they have all makes and models of clean well maintained cars with full sevice history and most have really low mileage, none off mine for instance have been returned with more then 18k on the clock after 3 years.
Hymie: servicing is required by both new and older cars...to keep them running properly...nothing to do with warranty.
gingejbee – see how far you get with a warranty claim, based on your own servicing of the vehicle.

If not done by a main dealer, manufacturers will try every wriggle to avoid paying out on a warranty claim.
Hymie: you do realise that it is no longer a requirement that new cars are serviced by a main dealer specialising in your marque of car? It does not alter warranty claims at all...as long as the car has been serviced to the manufacturers' requirements. I have just bought a new car (which I would never even think of servicing myself!) and the warranty documents state this clearly.
You seemed to be saying that one of the reasons not to buy a new car is that it needs servicing in some special way...it doesn't, it just needs servicing...which any car does.
We have a Hyundai i30 diesel. Nice to drive, cheap to buy and excellent on fuel.
BTW Hyundai i30 in Australia has a five year unlimited kilometers warranty.
