Speeding
Hello...been caught speeding doing 64mph in a 40 zone...(mobile police camera) he had a bit of luck because he jumped in the road to stop me..Anyway been driving for 33yrs with 1 conviction back in 2001 (speeding) Been told to want for the outcome though the post... But has anyone been in the same problem & what was the outcome...would I be banned?????

I would imagine the 2001 points are spent ....... but not sure how they treat 64mph in a 40 zone .... however - have a look at the link below .... this suggest the minimum speed in a 40 zone in order to trigger prosecution (as opposed to a speeding ticket fine) is 66mph, so you may have just escaped without going to court if this website is correct. Min speed for a ticket to be issues shows on there as 46mph ............ see what you think:

As MH indicates, it's a borderline case as to whether it will be dealt with by a fixed penalty (£60 + 3 points) or a court summons.
Even if a court summons is issued, it's extremely likely that you'd be banned. (Although a ban of up to 28 days is theoretically possible). Courts usually shy away from banning people for a single speeding offence, because the effect of the penalty might well be disproportionate to the offence. (e.g. somew people could lose their jobs). Our local courts [as reported in the 'Bury Free Press'] seem to be handing big fines to speeders (e.g.£800 + 6 points) but not banning them.
If you are fined, remember that fines are means tested. Your fine might well be much smaller than the one I've referred to above (e.g. perhaps only £80) but you'd still need to add on another £100 or so for costs and the 'victim surcharge' that is usually added.

I had a summonds through the post today, caught doing 35 in a 30 limit, and i am really careful about speed limits. just read the local paper, and last month the average fine was £200 plus 3 points. ( some were fined £300 plus).
A drunk that mugged an old lady, in the same newspaper, was conditionally discharged, as he was a registered alchoholic. he has to go to classes etc. easy target, drivers, but i do stress that speeding needs to be clamped down upon and I was out of order, so no real whinge on that part.
