Just means people hog lane 3 instead of lane 2 Tony.

I remember queueing up from just before the ( A5) Tony, that was before the Toll was open, If you were going down the ( M5) it was as quick coming off the A5 & making your way through W/Hampton & rejoin W.Brom & further down, I'm glad I'm out of the rat race.
I agree with you there, Eddie - I had a similar driving instructor as he was actually a truck driving instructor as well. I then went onto do advanced and have been on defensive courses (took my staff on one - and that included oodles of driving and that you can actually go faster than 70 in front of the police if they see you "driving." What does this mean, - moving out into the third lane, truck in front of you, someone in the "tunnel" between the truck and barrier. Let that car go through before entering (as you have no clue what could happen) and then, once clear, accelerate up (to 90+ if necessary) and get through asap. Slow down and move back.

This came from ex-motorway cops who were the instructors and at TRC near Reading....what they are after is the loon sitting in the second or third lane driving at 85, probably on cruise control and staring into oblivion, thinking about his/her sex tonight or the shopping list. They are the danger.
Yes I would have used that route too TWR, that stretch of the M6 is horrendous.

half on the pile ups o Motorways are caused by some private motorist that do not know how to use the motorways. ( Let's have it)




And yet -private motorist- make up far more than half of the traffic.

Have you ever seen a HGV having a picnic on the hard shoulder?

Have you ever seen a HGV stop in the overtaking lane to change a tyre?

Have ever seen a HGV cut every fecker up due to the fact that the idiot near missed his / her Junction?
I see it on the M25 often.
Merc or BMW (or often a 'modified' car) shoots up the slip road, crosses straight in to lane 3 (or sometimes 4) and sits there at cruise speed whether the inside lanes are busy or not.
Seems to be 'look at me thing'.
Big gripe is when a car is driving just under your max speed(speed limiter) then you pull out to overtake and he will then accelerate so you have to slot back in behind,people will do this for miles, either let the large vehicle get in front of you or speed up so you not slowing him down, sounds so simple to me!!

It's not all one way, TWR.....just as there are bad drivers in cars, there are in trucks too. Coaches seem to be a particular bane, mainly the way they can suddenly swerve out, often with no signalisation.

Yes, I take that on-board DT.. Kosmos, at the end of the day the UK Motorways can not cope with the volume of traffic.
No different to the States in or near major cities....more lanes needed, open lanes too except for the outside, and more experience for newbies on motorways - the other stat to bear in mind is that there is a correlation between use and accidents, the greater the mileage driven on motorways, though the risk becomes larger, the accident rate falls. That, to me, says "experience is key".....

A question for you - the following percentage of accidents

1. Motorway driving
2. Highways and Byways (A and B roads)
2. less than 30 (towns and villages)
3. less than 20

what percentage of UK road accidents are on Motorways, then the percentages as listed...
The stats we were quoted that less than 2% of accidents were on Motorways, 80% less than 30mph, 68% less than 20 mph, the figures not included being deaths and serious injuries.

To police this there will have to be a definition of 'middle lane hogging' at present it is subjective. There will need to be a legal definition or no prosecution will be possible, a person offered a choice of a FPN or a court appearance would be certain to get off by going to court if there is no legally accepted definition of lane hogging.
I think the recent announcement is far more about the present government trying to make itself more popular than any real attempt at road safety.
There's a stretch of the M1 near Nottingham that is already four lanes.
Numpties in the middle lane of three suddenly find there are two empty lanes to their inside but still refuse to pull to the left.
Similarly, drivers in the left hand lane of three don't even seem to notice when they come to an extra lane on their left and continue, blithely, on the second lane of four.
Must be on automatic pilot!
It can only be that they are so worried about having to change lanes that they stay where they are which would be fine if they choose the inside lane, There must be a argument where you can have the "motorway" driving part of your licence taken away from you..
Interesting to read,I only saw 1 police car,I didnt see any police cars,the number of unmarked police cars on the roads nowadays far outnumber marked cars.
