When did the word 'do' replace the word 'have'? There are two adverts on at present Ariel and BT where they say 'I do' and 'you do' instead of 'I have' and 'you have' - nonsense.

It's like when folk say 'should of' instead of 'should have'. Drives me mad !
That`s another quirk that has come from America. For example Q "Have you got a car?" A - "I do".
....and

How are you ?

I'm good.
237 - not quite right - they say 'I do - know what i'm sayin?'

Thought it was just me!
And what's all this 'proper, proper' nonsense when something is good ?!
innit
I can see where 'should of' comes from, (should've) but yes, still wrong.
''How are you ?
I'm good.''

' Madame, How goes it with you this fine day?'
' Why kind Sir, I find myself in the epitome of good health and fortune and hope that you find yourself in the same manner blessed'

Language does evolve a bit doesn't it?
Lol Shari ( sorry for the abreviation but think it quite suits you!)
p.s I love your hair!!
another thing tht get me is, 'it' kinda unique' or ir very unique or something or other unique - No, it isn't! It's either unique, or it isn't. i can add to that 'I'm good' statement, the other night my daughter was on Skype to her friend in California, who responded to 'how are you' with,
'I'm all kinds of good!'
Q. Do you take this woman ...
A. I have
I wish peepol wood tawk proper like wot i do.

WR.
Smowball, your hair is quite fetching!
/// Language does evolve a bit doesn't it? ///

Certainly does, but Oldies don't always evolve as fast LOL.
"I`m good" came from Australia, originally. Everything you do in america now is met with "Appreciate it". They say that instead of thank you now. And multiples of anything are "A bunch of". An American at work asked asked me for a cloth because "I`ve got a bunch of water down here". I was trying to imagine what a bunch of water looks like!
Usually African ethics aks..instead of ask....GRRR....wandered...for wondered....
I actually do hate bad grammer, but the spoken word I quite enjoy being diverse even when it's not strictly correct.
Why thankyou Sipowicz : )
Oh thanks for the hair comment Smowball, it's both a blessing and curse, I'm a bit of a Marmite bonce, you either love it or hate it.xx
