sit back and listen to the car radio until they turn up.

I don't think so

you should never stay in the car on the hard shoulder all it takes is a lorry to drift slightly onto the hard shoulder

Did you give a definitive answer to your last motorway question?
I would phone someone and wait patiently until they arrived.
Get someone else to do it ...
More to the point would you?

Personally I think provided the conditions were good I 'd change an near side tyre. I don't think I'd attempt to change an off side type on a hard shoulder.

Bit of a personal call that though!
You call the motoring association you pay annual fees to and then sit back and listen to the car radio until they turn up.
As OG says except except that it is recommended that you don't sit in the car but wait a short way from it clear of the motor way

One can get struck by lightning if unlucky too.
not only a lorry, jake....
Which is the most dangerous lane on the motorway?

Statistically it's the hard shoulder apparently.

I cringe when I see people following advice and not staying in the car, but then they stand on the grass a little way in front of it.
If the car is hit, that's where it will go.
Nearside

I'd put on the hi-vis jacket in my glove box and change it.

Offside.

I'd pull the car over until the offside was only just on the tarmac/concrete, put on the hi-vis and change it.
I've got a triangle as well as a hi-vis

Did you put on your Blue Peter Badge?
I carry a battery tyre inflater from Tesco £4.99 or AA
well i have a triangle, a hi vis and a rape whistle

but i would call aa and go sit on the bank unless it was cold/raining , in which case switch to near side and take my chances

and hope its not night time on the m6 or i might get accosted by a chintz sofa
''rape whistle''

You blow on it and they come running... a bit like the pied piper?
So what would you do, TWR?
i've never blown it...

you try and report back
''i've never blown it''

Oh please...
:-P
