Which model of MX5 is it Zac- sounds a bit heavy for a cat D, you can buy undamaged ones for that and less.
As long as you can see where it's been repaired (assuming it has been repaired, and it's not cat d due to stolen recovered) and the repairs look good I'd buy it.

Keep in mind that not all insurance companies like covering cat D cars and may either refuse cover or increase the premium a fair bit, so check your insurance company before buying.
Is it cat D in its crashed state or in its expertly restored fully guaranteed state?

It's the 1.8 model and yes very well repaired by the looks of it.
when you come to sell they would be asking the same question and have the same doubts..
