I am thinking of getting a Vauxhal Tigra... would there be any benefit in paying a bit extra to get a Diesel Version instead of a Petrol one ?
I do about about 10,000 miles a year

Because that is based on CO2 emissions - not particulates & unburnt fuel ...
Looking at this revue of the Tigra I would not want either of them !

I'm with sunny dave, diesel has a lot of hidden costs in special cats etc, I too would touch with a barge pole. if you do a lot of mileage consider an LPG conversion on a petrol car then you'd get an ROI over time depending on mileage.
No problem Dave, its good when people can take as well as give it, it makes the site cheerful.
Even then dave, particulates and emissions have come crashing down - it used to be that you could only have one at low levels with the expense of the ters but it was Lubrizol who found a solution to that.

There is space to still improve though, despite our Sulphur levels being usually lower than most States and our centistoke at 70+ (much higher), the Americans outstrip us on NOx and particulates and we will still be twice their level when we (the EU) come down next year - something introduced in that "so-called polluter" G-Shrub's time.....they also have far more active NOx and SOx trading in their markets now.
"at the expense of the other"
(I have also worked on a microadditive that works in conjunction with the cat-traps to reduce NOx in both gasoline and diesel systems - different chemistry needed but the process somewhat similar....)
For Gods sake DT don't start coming out with all these figures it will give the chancellor another Idea to raise the price in his budget.
What figures? Its concepts.....and NOx trading is fledgling in Europe, they are some benefits on CO2 and what we proposed meant no urea - based traps either.
We seem to have this argument on a weekly basis on AB. Jaimsieboy read Honest John in the Telegraph for a definitive answer.
If you pay £1000 more for a diesel model for instance, and only do 6,000 miles a year, think how much petrol you could have bought with that thousand pounds had you saved it and bought a petrol model. That's just one point and there are lots more but I want my tea now.
BMW 640d....49mpg.....0-62 in 5.5 secs...£150 ved.........petrol is for girls and strimmers!!
